How to Metal Detox

Before I go into a few ways to detox along with supplements I use on an almost daily basis, I want to recommend that you get tested for toxic heavy metal levels in your body. In my office I conduct a hair analysis for heavy metals and it's not uncommon to see patients with elevated arsenic, lead, mercury, uranium, and cadmium-a heavy metal more toxic than lead. This heavy metal exposure contributes to chronic conditions that leave us not feeling our best. Heavy metal testing can also be done by means of a urine analysis. A company called everlywell provides an at home test kit that’s a bit more expensive than the hair analysis test I conduct.

Benefits of metal detoxing are many, but here are a few highlights:

  1. Preventing chronic conditions like kidney and liver disease
  2. Increased energy
  3. Improved mental performance and memory
  4. Better mood
  5. Weight loss

Assuming you know you have some degree of unwanted toxic heavy metals in your body, here is a safe and effective way to get rid of these intruders:

  1. For mercury overload I supplement with Chlorella.  Chlorella has been shown to bind with mercury and safely eliminate it out of our bodies. I supplement with a product I sell called Chlorella Clean, taking 2 capsules whenever I eat any kind of fish
  2. Another supplement I use for overall metal detox is called Mercury Detox from Integrative Therapeutics.  This not only binds to mercury, but also to lead, cadmium, arsenic, and most toxic metals
  3. Glutathione is the third supplement I use to help with metal detox. Glutathione is a “master” antioxidant that binds to free radicals which protects your cells from heavy metals
  4. Sweating releases not only heavy metals but also other toxins.  So intense workouts or a sauna will do the trick
  5. Activated charcoal supplement. I personally buy my charcoal from Bulletproof.com. But there are many out there that will work just fine
